Setting

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a novel written around the character Christopher John Francis Boone. Christopher lives with his father at 36, Randolph street, Swindon, England. Swindon is a small town. Towards the beginning of the book the setting is very reflective of Christopher's introverted personality. As you read you are able to get a sense of his every day life which consists of going to school and going home spending most of his time in his room, either on the computer or feeding his rat Toby. Christopher goes to a special needs school because he has autism. Christopher likes small spaces where he can be alone, and sits in the airing cupboard beside the boiler. He also goes to the corner store to buy treats and keeps them in his own special cupboard that only he's aloud to touch. As you read on the setting no longer reflects Christopher's insular life as he goes to London, England. Other settings include, Randolph street, the garden, Mrs Shears's lawn, the train station, the train, the underground, his mother's flat and the room which she rents when they move back to Swindon.

  2. Setting

1.I think this book is set in the year 1998. I think this because Christopher finds a stamp in one of his mother's letters, which is dated as October 16th 1997, which Christopher presumed to be 18 months after his mother's "death". But, Christopher said his mother "died" two years ago, which means that the letter was sent six months prier to present time, which is in 1998.

2.Christopher attends a school for special needs kids because he is autistic. These types of schools provide the right learning environment for children with special needs.

4.I think that Christopher may realise his dreams in a bigger city, where he can achieve a better education that fits his needs. But, I also believe that Christopher would have become more annoyed growing up in a larger city, because of he doesn't like to be in places where there are a lot of people.

    5. Christopher's address is at 36 Randolph Street, Swindon, Wiltshire, in England.

6.Christopher's dad would like to get out of Swindon and he says that Swindon is the arsehole of the world.

9.The first few letters that Christopher's mother wrote stated that she live 451c Chapter road, Willesden, London. But, the other letters that she wrote came from the address Flat 1, 312 Lausanne Road, London.

  3. 3. I believe that Christopher and his father keep their house relatively clean. Christopher mentioned that ever since his mother 'passed away' his father hasn't done any vacuuming. Otherwise, Christopher and his father most likely keep the house on the cleaner side because of Christopher's personality. Christopher doesn't like it when things are moved around too much, such as the furniture in the house. Therefore if the house was a mess, Christopher would most likely not be able to deal with it, the constant clutter of items and their displacement would overwhelm him.

    4. I believe Christopher would be drastically different if he grew up in a larger city. Christopher is a boy who lives a relatively isolated life. He has few people who he interacts with on a daily basis, and he has no problem with that. Christopher also has trouble socializing with other people or having any sort of physical contact with someone. Since Christopher lives in a small city, he is able to live that sort of lifestyle comfortably. If Christopher was raised in a larger city with more happening, I think he would have a lot of trouble dealing with it.In large cities, there are lots of strangers, constant noise and busy streets. Christopher would be overwhelmed by every thing and would most likely become even more reclusive then he is now.
